How much of each fabric, and how to cut it.

Standing in the quilt shop doing sashing math on your phone is how you end up a quarter yard short. Type the quilt once and take the list.

WHAT IT WORKS OUT

• Blocks across and down for your target size, and the finished size whole blocks actually give you
• Blocks from a library of 11 pieced designs: plain, four patch, nine patch, half-square triangle, pinwheel, flying geese, sawtooth star, churn dash, rail fence, log cabin, snowball. Each fabric in the block gets its own yardage and cut list from the block geometry, using the standard shortcuts (2-at-a-time triangles, 4-at-a-time geese)
• Alternate pieced blocks with plain ones and the plain fabric is listed too
• Sashing with or without cornerstones: pieces, strips, subcuts
• Borders, up to three, with side and end lengths and the strips to join
• Binding: total length, strips to cut
• Backing: the cheaper piecing direction, panel count and length, and the wide-backing alternative
• Batting: size and the standard package that covers it
• Everything rounded up to the nearest eighth yard after your waste allowance
• A scaled diagram of the layout so you can check it looks like what you meant
