Same company, five spellings. Fixed.

Every CRM export, lead list and vendor file has "General Electric Co", "GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY" and "General Electric Co." as three different companies. This spreadsheet finds them.

Paste your list into column A. Duplicates turn red, the one to keep turns green, and the Clean List tab gives you one row per company, ready to copy out.

Not an app. Not a subscription. No upload to anyone's server. One spreadsheet that works in Google Sheets and Excel.

WHAT IT IGNORES

• Upper and lower case
• Punctuation and hyphens (Hewlett-Packard = Hewlett Packard)
• "&" vs "and"
• A leading "The"
• "www." and ".com"
• Legal suffixes: Inc, Incorporated, Corp, Corporation, Co, Company, LLC, LLP, LP, Ltd, Limited, PLC, GmbH, SA, AG, BV, NV, Pty and more, stacked ("Acme Corp LLC" works). The list is editable.

WHAT IT NEVER DOES

It never merges on similarity. Meta Platforms is not Meta Financial. IBM is not International Business Machines. There is no fuzzy matching anywhere, so it never merges two real companies into one.

What you see

• Finder: your list, the clean name, a verdict (UNIQUE, KEEP, DUPLICATE), which row it duplicates, and which spelling to keep. Counts at the top: names pasted, unique companies, duplicates to remove.
• Clean List: one row per company in your original order and spelling, with how many copies were found.
• Suffixes: the words that get dropped. Add your own.

What you get

• The finder (.xlsx, opens in Google Sheets or Excel), room for 2,000 names
• A 2-page quick-start guide

Who it's for

Sales ops, marketers, recruiters, analysts, anyone about to send a mail merge to a list with the same company in it four times.

Good to know

• Pure formulas. No macros, add-ons, scripts or sign-ups. Your data never leaves the sheet.
• Works in Google Sheets (free) and Excel 2016 or newer.
• Based on the normalization rules in reckoner, an open-source entity resolver for organization names.
• Instant download.
